Behind The Lens

Location

I am a professional photographer based in downtown, Alicante (Spain), where I have my own studio. That day I call a friend in order to test a new flash light that I got. She came with a glossy red lipstick and i had a toy bullet among a bunch of toys os a previous shooting, so we used it.

Time

This is a studio photo, there were total oclussion to ambient light, so I have total control with the strobe lighting. I usually work at night in the studio.

Lighting

This is really simple light scheme: I set a cenital light with a softbox mounted, and a golden reflector in the opposite side to fill shadows. The highlights in her lips come from a glossy makeup.

Equipment

Nikon d800 with a Nikkor 70-200mm 2.8 mounted. Studio strobe light and a golden reflector.

Inspiration

While I lived in the US it shocked me there were so many people who defend having automatic weapons at home.

Editing

There was just a very light post-processing in this image. A very basic color correction and a little of extra sharpening is all I can remember :)

In my camera bag

I usually pick only what is necessary for the shooting. Normally I work with my Nikon d800 for photo an video. A nikkor 35mm 1.4 is most of the time in my bag too.

Feedback

Work with strobe lights requires some knowledge on your tools (in a technical level) and lots and lots of experimentation to get the best results. Your skills with the tools, your resources, your knowledge and overall your experience, helps to define your own style.
