Behind The Lens
Location
This photo was taken in an abondoned building (that is now demolished). We were on the basement floor where they used to have big water tanks.Time
It was around 6 PM if I remember correctly, but since we were in a pitch black basement - the time of the day didn't really matter regarding the photo.Lighting
Two LED-panels were used to take this photo - one right behind the talent and the other top-left from behind the camera. I use constant light mostly since I'm also a videographer. The constant light also served as a safety light since the basement was pitch black and there were hard surfaces and sharp edges all over the place that we needed to be aware of. Later that day I did hit my leg on one cut pipe that was sticking out from the floor in the middle of the room. It left a permanent scar (about 5cm long) on my shin.Equipment
Shot handheld with Canon EOS 60D and a Canon 50mm 1.8 lens on it. Faster lens was a no-brainer choice since we knew there will be low available light on location.Inspiration
We went to the abandoned building with a small group of photographers and models. No prior planning was done (regarding the photo ideas), we just went inside and searched for good locations to shoot.Editing
No major editing was done - added a bit purple to the edge of the light that goes in the middle behind the talent. In my camera bag
Nowadays I shoot with Canon EOS 90D which is much better camera compared to the 60D I used to shoot with. The Canon 50mm 1.8 is still a good workhorse in low light. I also have a SIGMA 10-20mm 2.8 for wide angle shots. On top of that I have a bunch of vintage lenses like Helios 44-2 and Tokina 135mm 2.8 to name a few. Couple of microphones for videos and basic tools (like screwdriver and duct tape).Feedback
Strong backlight plays a key role in this shot in my opinion. The LED-panel is on the floor and it lights the grungy floor giving it more texture and a rim light for the talent.
