Behind The Lens

Location

This was my first real estate photo shoot. I took this photo in the city of Kuopio, Eastern Finland.

Time

Mid-day, cloudy weather. .

Lighting

All natural light. Luckily it was cloudy so no harsh shadows from the sun light.

Equipment

This was shot on my old Canon 60D with a Samyang (Rokinon) 35mm T1.4 on the nose. Basic Slick photography tripod - nothing special there.

Inspiration

This was my first paid real estate shoot so I was determined to make it good with the knowledge I had back then. Today I would do things very differently - for starters I'd straighten the vertical lines.

Editing

I de-saturated the already muted tones even more to bring out the clarity the apartment had. Wooden toy in front brings great color contrast to the image.

In my camera bag

At the moment I have Canon 90D (and the 60D as a backup), Sigma 10-20mm, Olympus 35mm, Canon 50mm, extra batteries and SD-cards (so that I don't run out of juice and storage). Since I shoot videos as well I have a RODE Wireless GO II set as well on my camera bag.

Feedback

When shooting real estate, try to think what is the main subject on the frame. In this case it is the sofa and the toy in front. If there isn't a clear subject - change the location/direction/lens.
