Location
This.picture was taken in the Namib desert of Namibia. We has traveled all day, looking for the desert elephants and just happened on a herd. This mother was so protective of her baby who was not quite up to walking yet.Time
This was taken in late afternoon. Most of the elephant herd was taking naps.Lighting
Just an outdoor shot, from the only vantage possible.Equipment
I used a Nikon D5100 wirh a 55-300 mm lens, a sun shade, and my knees crawl close enough to catch the wrinkles.Inspiration
The tenderness of the mother and the REALLY cuteness of the baby touched me.Editing
Just cropping. I let the elephants and the desert light tell the story. In my camera bag
Obviosly my camera, tons of sd cards and batteries, lens wipes, a wide lens, a renote, and weirdly, since I take dog portraits for an animal shelter at home, a few sqeakers and the occasional dog biscuit.Feedback
Namibia is FANTASTIC! The light, the wild life, the fabulous people, the landscape. It's on my must-return-someday list.
