Location
I took this photo in the nature light that comes in through a bedroom window in my house.Time
I tried to take this photo several times throughout the day, but could never achieve quite achieve what i was looking for. After trying all day long, it was around 4:30 in the afternoon when i finally captured this shot.Lighting
There is always a beautiful stream of light that comes through a window in one of the bedrooms in our house. I've taken many photo's in this exact spot over the past for years, trying to achieve the same lighting and position to show how my face is slowly changing over the years. The natural light helps to capture certain aspects of the face, like my freckles for example, than the artificial light would.Equipment
This was shot with my Nikon D5100 and a 18-55mm lens, there was no flash needed with this shot. I also used the windowsill as my "tripod" to keep my camera steady and at a good height for the photo.Inspiration
Every six months to one year I like to take a self portrait like this. I have seen so many close-up portraits similar to this done by other photographers and i absolutely adore them, which is what inspired me to capture this.Editing
Once I captured this photo, I used an editing program to adjust it the colours to black and white, i also turned up the contrast levels to make specific facial features a bit more prominent. In my camera bag
I am just a beginning photographer, so I don't even have a bag yet. But, I do have a Nikon D5100 and the kit lens (18-55mm) as well as a 55-300mm lens.Feedback
The best tip I have for others trying to capture something similar is to find somewhere with an abundance of natural light. For example, a large picture window in a bedroom or living room. Also, using a tripod or other sturdy surface so the photo will be free of blur caused by any shakiness.
