Behind The Lens

Location

i was in switzerland. this was shot from the mountain station of the Säntis. its close to st. gallen. i walked twice around the big station to just take the mountains in.

Time

we got there probably around 10.00 am. there where no clouds to begin with. but as i explored it started to be more and more foggy. it was like windows opening, the cloud cover ripped apart and would show some parts from a peak while sticking to others.

Lighting

i was pretty much just waiting for a moment where i liked what the clouds where showing me. when the peak with the "gipfelkreuz", the cross at the peak showed, i knew this was it.

Equipment

in use a nikon D5100, with a 105 fixes lens.

Inspiration

i am working on this project 365 to improove my photography, a picture a day for a year. so i was just waiting for the right moment.

Editing

i dont understand much of postprocessing, and i abuse lightroom sometimes, but in this case i just wanted to bring out the clouds more, at the beginning it was just white, and i brought out the greens and browns a little more on the mountainside that peaked through the clouds

In my camera bag

i constantly drag around almost all of my stuff. i never know what i am going to see so i bring first of all my nikon d5100 with a standard 18-200 lense. loving the small things in nature, i always bring my nikkor 105 for the possibility of close-up pictures and i just lately bought a fixed 50mm lense that i love. sometimes, when i know i might need it i bring a tripod, but i forget it most often then not.

Feedback

just keep your eyes open. this far up in the mountains you never know how the weather might be. be patient. it took a while for the clouds to kling to the mountain peaks in a way i liked so waiting amd enjoying the sight is definetly important. last thing, its 2500m high, weather will be rough, so bring good clothes and shoes!!
