Location
This photo was taken in Jasper National Park, Alberta Canada at a viewpoint along the highway between Jasper and Banff.Time
2 friends and I got up very early to drive from Edmonton to the south end of Jasper Park for sunrise and then drove into the town of Jasper with stops along the way and this stop to photograph mountain scenery was at approximately noon. While we were stopped this friendly raven came and posed for us hoping that we might have some treats (which we didn't) to give him in return.Lighting
There was taken in complete natural light. In Alberta winters we have either very overcast or very sunny days. This day if I remember correctly was one the rare days with sunshine and just a small bit of occasional cloud cover.Equipment
This photo was taken with a Nikon D600 camera and Nikon 70-200 f2.8 lens and was completely handheld. I squatted as low as I could get without laying in the snow and ice to get this shot.Inspiration
While my friends were still taking landscape photos I decided to take a few shots of this raven that seemed to be following us around the parking lot. I love take nature photo of all kinds and when they pose up close they are an absolute must to shoot.Editing
I believe the only post processing to this shot was a bit of cropping and maybe a slight contrast adjustment. In my camera bag
My camera bag consists of my 2 Nikon cameras, a D600 and D90 along with the following Nikon lenses 70-200 f2.8, 24-70 f2.8, 50 f1.4, 85 f1.5, a Sigma 105 f2.8, Tokina 11-16 f2.8 and Nikon 70-300 f4.5-5.6 a;pmg with 2 Manfrotto tripods and 1 Manfrotto monopodFeedback
My best advise for taking wildlife and bird photos is take your time, move very slowly as to not scare off your subject. Using a high shutter speed for birds in flight is also a must in my mind. This fellow was being very cooperative though so the fast shutter speed was not as necessary.
