Behind The Lens

Location

Jökulsárlón Beach on the eastern coast of Iceland.

Time

This was taken just after sunset, the light was getting really low after a day of rain which created a nice dramatic.

Lighting

As there wasn't much of a sunset due to the amount of cloud cover, I went with the flow and worked with what light was left after the sun went down

Equipment

I used my trusty Nikon D800 with my Nikon 24-70mm 2.8 lens. I used my Lee filters polariser and 0.9 ND grad to make things nice and moody, and to keep everything sharp I used my Nikon remote shutter and Manfrotto 190 Tripod.

Inspiration

I have seen many photos of this beach, it is extremely inspiring to be on such a famous beach, it was worth the 7 hour drive from the hotel!

Editing

I did a little post editing with photoshop CS5. This was mostly due to water drops and some dust on my filters. After cleaning the image up a little I lightened the image and added a little warmth so the image wasn't just a deep blue.

In my camera bag

On my Icelandic trip I kept my kit very simple, I used just my Nikon D800 and 24-70mm 2.8 lens. My selection of Lee filters, my Manfrotto 190 tripod, Nikon remote shutter, my trusty head torch and a packet of jaffacakes! Also a top tip is to carry a bin liner and an elastic band for when it raining to cover your camera.

Feedback

Triple check the weather forecast, if your heading for Iceland I believe it's best to either stay at several hotels around the island or better still, hire a camper van. Be prepared to all weathers and try and think out of the box.
