Location
This was taken at a the heads of the valleys photography networking event, near Ebbw Vale, South Wales. It's somewhere for photographers and models to get together and either spend time shooting or just chatting. It's very social.Time
This was around 3pm which is towards the end of the event.Lighting
I placed Misty just within the edge of the shade, just out of the sun as I'd read this was a good lighting situation for portraits. I don't like flash much and much prefer natural light.Equipment
I used my Canon 600D handheld with my 50mm 'nifty fifty' f/1.8 lens.Inspiration
I was drawn to Misty straight away as she stood out from the other models that were attending the event.Editing
I did something I normally don't do with portraits. I increased the clarity by quite a lot as it really brought out her freckles. I also brightened the eyes slightly and used a subtle light brown tone for the whole image. In my camera bag
My camera (now a Canon 70D) a Sigma 17-70 lens, Canon 50mm f/1.8 and Canon 85mm f/1.8 also two spare batteries, a flash unit, various memory cards and a lenspen to keep the lenses clean.Feedback
Just take plenty of shots, don't be afraid to experiment with different angles, make a connection with the model so she's comfortable and relaxed and think about how the position of the sun or shade can change the look of an image.
