Congratulations on becoming a Finalist in Downtown in Black and White. I love this photo of the train in the station, a clear and precise contact between light and dark.

This image is so evocative - to people of my age - of the film, "Brief Encounter", a lot of action of which takes place in the refreshment room of a station similar to this one. Great shot. Well Done!

I have seen this image a few times before and have to admit that it is one of my favorites. I love old Hollywood movies from the '40's and '50's that are in B/W and this remind me of them. Very well done.

Location
I took this photo during a TimeLine Events charter on the Paignton to Dartmouth Steam Railway. We had spent the day taking photos of the locomotive during the day before we ended at Kingswear Station for the nightshoot. Behind the camera me and my fellow photographers were getting wet and chilled by the rain and wind sweeping down the river Dart and into the back of the station.Time
We set up the the shoot on an Autumn night .Lighting
We had a few spotlights to light the locomotive and also the atmospheric lighting from the Station's lights.Equipment
Canon 5Dmk2 on a tripod with a remote release.Inspiration
I take my inspiration from Historic photos of Britain's Railways.Editing
The photo was edited in lightroom and adjusted in photoshop. The black and white conversion was completed using Nik Silver Efex. I was hoping to give the image a Film Noir feel.In my camera bag
When this photo was taken I was a Canon shooter using a 5Dmk2 and sometimes a 7D as a backup. Since then I have spent a few years shooting m4/3rds before moving on to Sony.Feedback
I think the best advice is to go out there and shoot. There have been times when the weather has been so bad that I have almost considered not heading out, but you never truly know what you will get until you put your boots on the ground. It also helps to use an organiser like TimeLine events, who have arranged access to various locations and subjects to which I would not have normally been privileged.
