Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Downtown L.A. near skid row

Time

I believe it was around 6ish, nearing the golden hour

Lighting

I just used the ambient light around me so no flashes, strobes, or reflectors were used, all natural light. What did help a little was the fact that it was cloudy therefore the light was a little softer.

Equipment

I just used my camera, no tripod and no flash. I used the kit lense that came with may Canon 6D, which was a 24mm -105mm f4

Inspiration

I was hired to do this shoot, but the inspiration came with the great background colors and I thought this would make a great contrast.

Editing

I shoot raw like sushi so yes I had to do a little processing, bump up the shadows, bring down the highlights and a little vignetting

In my camera bag

Well now I have a little more equipment but before it was just my Canon 6D with the kit lense 24mm-105mm, no tripod or flashes. Now I have a Manfrotto 055C and a XPRO Geared Head, and a Canon 430 EX II speedlight

Feedback

My advice in not to focus so much on the poses or directing, but rather enjoy the moment and try to capture the true personality of the model, is the same I do with the children portrait photos.
