THE SOUTHERN CROSS....was bought by Charles Kingsford-Smith and Charles Ulm in SanFrancisco, but when New South Wales government funding was withdrawn, an American aviator and Philanthropist, Alan Hancock, bought the aircraft and then loaned it back to Kingsford-Smith and Ulm, who with a navigator and radio operator took off from Oakland California on 31st May 1928 on it's journey to Australia, stopping in Hawaii to refuel and rest and then on to Fiji before landing at Eagle Farm, Brisbane, Australia on 9th June, 1928 to a waiting crowd of 25,000......a MEMORABLE MOMENT in Aviation history witnessed and photographed by my Mum

Wow, how emotional would they all have been. It's such a rotten thing for these young ladies and men to have to be sent off to War!
