Grand Falls Photographer... this place is pretty unique. On one side of the Little Colorado River is a rust colored sandstone. The side I'm standing on is a black volcanic rock. It made for an unusual canyon.
I didn't really like the monotone color of this photo, which was taken a little while after sunset, but it did make the photographer's clothing stand out nicely. These falls are actually higher than Niagra Falls, so the magnitude of it's size doesn't show well here.
This was done as an HDR shot and I had some ghosting to remove near the photographer, since this was a pretty long exposure. Hope you like it!

Big Congrats Blair, I've told you I like this shot a lot. Love the contrasting color of the jacket against this scene. The scene itself is very surreal. Great work as always and a huge congrats.

Your caption helps appreciate the magnitude of the falls... You're right, at first they appear small (a "trompe l'oeil" ). Well done and a big congrats for another great shot. Bravo!

Congratulations!!! Great capture!!! From this view, it's hard to believe the falls are higher than those of Niagra Falls...truly amazing!!!

Congratulations on well deserved award - I love the composition, the colors in the land sky and water contrasted against the jacket color, the textures; really great work here!

Location
This shot was taken during my first trip to Grand Falls on the Little Colorado River in central Arizona. Heavy water flow depends mostly on flash floods. This shot was taken in the spring with typical spring runoff. The waterfall is larger than it first appears. It's overall height is greater than that of Niagra Falls on the New York/Canada border.Time
This was shot at sunset. The photographer pictured here and I were the only ones around.Lighting
This location is usually shot directly into the sunset. I've never been here under what I feel is ideal lighting condition.Equipment
THis was shot with a Canon T4i body with a Canon wide angle lensInspiration
I love the desert and waterfalls. This spot gives me both.Editing
This was shot as an HDR photo with 3 bracketed exposures. In my camera bag
A variety of Canon equipment. I typically use a Canon 6D body now, with several Canon lenses. Wide angle is still my favorite landscape lens.Feedback
Try and try again. Summer floods give the most dramatic flow, but are quite unpredictable. Normally the flow here is just a trickle. Much of the summer it doesn't flow at all. Bring bug repellant.
