Well I'm surprised that this picture got so much attention on this website. Thanks for that by the way. This picture was taken during my very first workshop that I attended in Munich. It was also the first time I photographed a person and obviously my first nude shooting as well. When I participated I just turned 18 and was able to attend.Time
We darkened the room in the photo studio, where the workshop was held but it was late afternoon.Lighting
We used two strobes on very low power settings and they came both from a 45 degree angle from behind. This is how you create this lightning effect.Equipment
I think at that time I still had my Nikon D90 so nothing fancy at all. I believe the strobes were Profoto but I might be mistaken.Inspiration
Well the workshop was about different lightning effects and this was one of the settings we were given. So in all honesty the setup wasn't my idea but the pose of the model was.Editing
I only converted it into black and white and changed the contrast a little. That's it. At that time I had no Photoshop nothing. I was working with Gimp.In my camera bag
Nowdays my Nikon D700, a 20mm f2.8, 50mm f1.4 and a 70-300mm. Probably a tripod, too depending on what I'm shooting.Feedback
Just go for it. Light effects you can learn from Youtube tutorials or do it like me and attend a workshop (I highly recommend doing that at least once!). I enjoy workshops if they are held in a small group so you actually get time with the model(subject).
