A terrific shot. The sunset and building with sails? really work well.

Thanks. The Windmills of Oia? The lighting effect of this photograph is what draws my attention.

I love the warmth of the light in this photograph and the contrast of light and shadow. Excellent!

Much thanks for the judges and voters who granted me the "People's Choice" award for the "Night Life Photo Contest." Much thanks to those who have granted peer awards, comments, and likes. I must say, this photograph took a lot of work because I had to run from kilometers away to find the last minutes of Blue Hour, find the only available spot without people blocking the view, setup, and take the photographs.

I might as well go and hang up the camera now or at the very least never go to Santorini, I coudn't even think of getting anywhere near this perfection.

This image is a stack of three merged in Photomatix pro exported to Lightroom for final processing, using photographic preset in Photomatix Pro. ISO was 800. Focal length was F8. Lens was set at 22mm to avoid capturing bystanders right next to me. manual focusing through live view. One image was +2 step 8 seconds. One image was -2 step 1/2 second. And the no exposure compensation image was 1.5 seconds. I used ISO 800 to limit noise and F8 to capture as much depth as possible. I also focused towards center of the image were it was mid point of foreground and background.

Location
Oia, Santorini, Greek Islands. Forty minutes prior to taking the series of photographs which were processed to create this image, I was four kilometers to the east on top of a mountain capturing photographs of the sunset. As soon as the sun set, I ran from the top of the mountain all the way to the end of Oia, Santorini, found the only available spot to open my tripod, set it up, and capture this image.Time
The images were taken towards the end of Blue Hour circa 8:45 PM in early August.Lighting
I wanted to capture the effect of the twilight and the artificial lights. The combination of natural and artificial light provided excellent contrast for the architecture, the sea, and the sky.Equipment
A Canon 60D, a Tokina ATX Pro 12-28mm F4 lens, a Manfrotto carbon fiber tripod, and a canon remote shutter release.Inspiration
The thrill of trying to take Golden Hour photography from the top of a mountain in Santorini and then run down four kilometers as fast as possible to capture Blue Hour photographs at the western end of the island. It was a goal and I was able to do it. I only had limited time in Santorini so I had to make maximum use of my time. :)Editing
I used Photomatix Pro 5.0 to combine the bracketed exposures, then imported the image into Lightroom 5.7 for final processing. In my camera bag
For this trip, I had to travel light and also had to be willing to lose what I took since for a variety of reasons there were times I had to leave my equipment in a hotel room while working on other functions. As such, I had my Canon 60D, Canon 24-105 F4L IS, and a Tokina 12-28mm lens. However, if it is a trip in which it will be exclusively for photography, I would have packed a Canon 6D, Canon 17-40 F4L, Canon 24-70 F2.8L, and Canon 24-105 F4L IS.Feedback
For Blue Hour photography, lots of practice and experimentation. This allowed me to be able to take this photograph with very limited time. I had about a five minute window to get the last minutes of Blue Hour. After running down the mountain four kilometers distant, I quickly found an available spot and set up the tripod, mounted the camera and set it in aperture priority mode with a manual setting of ISO, selected manual focus, used live view with increased magnification to manually focus, set up the auto bracketing exposure compensation feature, set the camera to take exposures in sets of three, and used the remote to trigger the shutter release. With prior experience and practice, this was an easy process which resulted in this photograph with limited time.
