Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken in a derelict building in the UK an old cotton mill

Time

It was around 10am on a beautiful spring morning still a chill in the air

Lighting

Purely natural light the sun was streaming in from the very large windows of the mill creating the shadows

Equipment

This was taken on a Nikon D7000 with the kit 18 to 70 MM lens, I did not use any lighting on this occasion or a tripod. The biggest issue was the changing light therefore getting the exposure was difficult

Inspiration

We had visited the mill previously in not such good light and in mid winter. So really this image was made because of the light and the great location and of course a stunning model

Editing

This was all very simple a little change to contrast using Nik colour Efex and Lightroom

In my camera bag

Since this image I have moved on a lot in equipment. Now carry a Nikon D610 along with 2 prime lenses from Nikon a 50mm F1.4 and a 70mm F2 I still have a kit lense in my bag but for all model shoots use these 2 lens . I always carry at lease 2 flash units and triggers and various modifiers if possible like to carry a strip light and beauty dish . Of course a good tripod and stands for the flash units and triggers

Feedback

As I said previously be very very patient in natural light you will be constantly changing exposure but is worth it . Scout out your location if this is a location shoot and have the right equipment to give you options
