Two volcanoes, seen from the south - Beerenberg-2277m and beneath it Esk-284m.
The lava cliffs along the foreground coastline are from the Esk eruption outflow in 1732.
Exactly when Beerenberg itself was created is unknown, but the whole Jan Mayen island itself is allegedly less than 700 000 years old.
Try imagine the rumble when that happened..!
