Behind The Lens

Location

Antelope Slot Canyon(s), Page Arizona

Time

It was about 11:00 AM, on a guided tour. These tours are very popular (crowded) and you need to plan months ahead to set a date. They also have tours restricted for photographers only that require specific equipment. Once in the canyon you will not want to change your lens because of flying dust.

Lighting

You need be prepared for lighting differences are dramatic practically with every step you take. I recommend you know how to set up your camera in manual mode or you will be disappointed with the results. For Photographer only tours, the tour guide will help you with your camera settings if you are familiar with your cameras.

Equipment

Canon EOS 80D I used a tripod for most shots but not this one No Flash EF16-35mm f/4L IS USM Exposure 1/250 sec; f/6.3; ISO 100

Inspiration

I was planning on taking this shot, but my wife insisted so she could show everyone what she climbed to exit the canyon. She kiddingly calls it her near death experience. With the help of the tour guide we convinced her to climb out.

Editing

I did some minor exposure changes to bring out the details in the rock in the shaded area.

In my camera bag

That day, no camera equipment was allowed except the camera body, one lens, tripod, and lens cleaner.

Feedback

Look for the opportunity take each shot from unusual point view. In this case, I set the camera body on the ground looking up. I had to take multiply shots to get the perspective I was looking for.
