During most of my year on Hawai´i, I was limited to urban birding and photography within the proximity of Honolulu. Among my favorites was observing the Kolea (Pacific Golden Plover) that spend their winter in the subtropics. I took this picture in the early morning sun in Ala Moana Beach Park, shortly before their migration back to the breeding grounds in Siberia and Alaska.
