Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my kitchen on a whim. I received a new espresso machine as a gift and thought what better way to commemorate the occasion. Any excuse to create a photo.

Time

This was taken mid morning just before the sun begins to blast through my kitchen window.

Lighting

I use natural light whenever possible while shooting food and beverages. This was no exception. I used a single bounce card for fill with the main light coming from the window.

Equipment

I shot this with my Olympus TG-4, hand held nothing extra special just what I had readily available. Proof that you can create a great image with a point and shoot as well as a dslr.

Inspiration

A beautiful cup of coffee always inspires me!

Editing

I always use Lightroom for minor color corrections, contrast and sharpness.

In my camera bag

These days I carry an Olympus TG 6, a DJI Osmo Pocket, as well as an Olympus OMD EM5 Mark III with several lenses, external flash, a Lume Cube light kit, and a tripod.

Feedback

Don’t get caught up in thinking that you have to have certain equipment to create a great image. Use whatever is readily available to the best of your ability to get the shot. Maybe it’s as simple as using a napkin as your bounce card. Most of all never stop experimenting and learning.
