This photo was taken in my backyard in Perth, Australia. I walked past these flowers so many times and finally decided to capture this image.Time
I took this photo just after lunch in summer on a cloudy day so no harsh shadows.Lighting
I like cloudy days as you don't get the harsh shadows in the photo.Equipment
This was shot with my canon 20D, can't afford a better camera :-( and it still does a good job. My trusty 17-85mm f4.5 lens with a tripod and shutter release. I was actually sitting in front of the tripod and set the camera to a 5 second delay. It took a few goes to frame the photo as I couldn't see it.Inspiration
I'm always looking around at the environment as love nature and photographing it. I walked past this bush in my backyard so many times and the heart shaped flowers always stood out. I finally decided to photograph it and decided to cup the flowers as this would make them stand out. I'm so pleased with the result and all the community likes. It really inspired me to keep going.Editing
As with most of my photos I do minimal post processing. I'm still old school as started with developing my own B&W negatives with a developing tank and enlarger. I miss the smell of developer lol. I finally succumbed and years ago bought a negative scanner. Welcome the era of the digital darkroom. I think the art of photography is slowly being taken over by the art of photoshop'ing which is a shame. I guess these days it's who's best at that :-(In my camera bag
My camera bag consists of a Canon 20D, 17-85mm f4.5 EFS lens, Canon 100-400mm f4.5 EFS lens, Canon 60mm f2.8 lens, shutter release, Canon Speedlite 420EX II, light meter, tripod and monopod (for the 100-400mm lens as it pretty heavy).Feedback
Not sure what to suggest apart from keep trying until you get the image that's in your head. Experiment with tripod and shutter release trying to frame the flowers first then not moving them when you cup your hands. This image would have been easier with someone else holding the flowers but as it was my hands, it gives me a greater sense of achievement at capturing this image. One of my favorites :-)
