This photo was taken in my home studio. As I am self taught, youtube was a great help in learning the fine art of studio photography.Time
I can't remember the time of day this was taken as it was in a studio. As I was working with infants at the time, it was a juggling act with feeding and trying to settle them. It certainly was an experience.Lighting
For the lighting I used two 90cm x 60cm soft boxes with 220w strobes. I positioned them at 45 degree angles from the subjects. Surpisingly, I managed to only have to take around 3-4 shots to get this just right.Equipment
I used a Canon 20D (which I'm still using as can't afford a descent camera) and a Canon efs 17-85mm lens. The lighting was two 90cm x 60cm soft boxes with 220w strobes.Inspiration
At the time I was taking a lot of infant photos as my partner had setup a hand/feet casting business from home. We offered the studio photography as an extra which the parents really appreciated not having to go to 2 separate businesses. I was experimenting with lighting as was self taught (thanks to youtube). I saw a similar image in a magazine and thought I could reproduce it. It actually turned out really well and happy with the final shot.Editing
The only post-processing I did was in photoshop to darken the background. I was using a black sheet as a backdrop but you could slightly see the creases in it. With photoshop I just darkened the black background slightly. In my camera bag
My camera bag has a Canon 20D, Canon efs 17-85mm lens, Canon efs 100-400mm lens, Canon 50mm lens, Canon 580ex flash and a trusty shutter release.Feedback
This photo took a bit of planning and experimenting. I lay the baby down on a table with a black sheet on it. The parents sat on the floor with their hands holding the babies legs. It took a bit of time getting the parents hands in the right position so I could take the photo from above their heads. It was fun trying to get it right and I can't be happier with the result. This is definitely one of my favorite shots I've taken.
