Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on a small meadow in the middle of a forest where we were testing some new equipment with my good friend and owner of this collie

Time

I will not be saying exact time of the photo taken as I don't think my camera was set up properly, but it was quite soon before dark and as it was January 2018, dark was coming quickly. I'd say it was around 2pm

Lighting

Light was amazing and dark. It was heavily snowing which was scattering light even more, so no harsh shadows or bad lighting...the only thing to consider was a lens with better aperture

Equipment

This was quite interesting experiment where I used Nikon 300mm f/2.8 lens on my Canon 70D with a converter. So completely manually focused, lying down in snow with a lens heavy as hell trying to focus properly haha

Inspiration

I was inspired by trees in the background and tons of snow and snowflakes in the air. I knew that for the best results I should use compression of long focal length, so I borrowed my friend's 300mm to take this photo and it was definitely worth it

Editing

Sure, I always do postprocessing by editing colors and some other tweaks to make the subject pop. I do the most work in Lightroom, with only small edits or retouching in Photoshop

In my camera bag

My bag is pretty much always the same, my trusty Canon 70D with either 24-105 or 18-135 lens, 50mm and 85mm, some filters and also Canon 500N for some good old film stuff

Feedback

I believe I said it all, but to recap, to make this photo, just use as long and as open wide lens as possible, go low and find some darker background to isolate your subject at least a little
