Nothing too special. This photo was taken as the sun was going down.Equipment
This was shot on a Nikon D3200, 18-55mm f/3-5.6, a three stop ND filter and my trusty tripod.Inspiration
I live in North Carolina and was on vacation in Maine. Needless to say I don't get to see coast lines like this very often. This is a pretty picturesque place, as you can probably tell. There were lots of other photographers there and all of them were basically in the same spot taking the same photo. I knew right away that I wanted something different. I wanted to show case the awesome rocky cliffs as well as the lighthouse. To get this shot I walked far away from the other photographers and had to climb down the rocky cliffs to get in position. I was on the edge of the rock in the foreground with the waves basically crashing right on me. In fact I had to leave not too long after I got this shot or I would have been swept away with the ocean. It was worth it though. I got the shot that I wanted and I got away from the crowd. I took some photos where all of the other photographers were as well and none of them came out as good as this one. This is one of my personally favorite photos that I've taken.Editing
I did some basic stuff in lightroom then finished it off in color effects pro of the Nik Collection. In my camera bag
I just got a tamaron 11-16mm f/2.8 and it rarely comes off of my camera. I love what your able to do with a wide angle lens. I also have a 55-200mm f/4-5.6 and my Nikkor 35mm f/1.8. I also use my 3, 6, and 10 stop ND filters quite regularly. And of course I never leave with out my tripod.Feedback
Just get out there and shoot. And when you are out there shooting look for unique perspectives. When I showed up to this location I could tell the best view was going to be down the coast line where you could see the waves crashing on the rocks with the lighthouse in the background. I had to do some work to get there but it was worth it. Had I followed the crowd and stayed in the same place as all the other photographers I still would have gotten a good shot, but I would have missed out on a great shot.
