This was taken on a hiking trip in Opal Creek, Oregon. It was a long trip to make it to the creek that day but it was well worth it. It was just about a mile into the trip and was almost right on the path and I stood there and marveled about how nature interacted with something that was left idle for what looked to be many years. The coolest aspect of it all was this was not the only old truck we saw on our trip, but all in all a great find. I have yet to travel back but I will one day get back there and see it.Time
It was a cloudy day(typical Oregon weather) so the sun wasn’t a huge factor in lighting for this image. We got there about 10:30 in the morning so I would say about 11-11:30 as there was a lot to look for.Lighting
Oregon can give off some good light and the shadows off the trees weren’t horrible in this image, overall I think the sun not being directly on the truck gave it a better look.Equipment
My first camera which my family had bought for me while I was taking photography in high school. I used my Nikon D3100 so a basic beginners DSLR. Other than that, no equipment was needed.Inspiration
I loved the look of the trees and the truck together as if Mother Nature had accepted the truck as its own. The color scheme of the red truck and green forest also helps it stand out more. It was truly an amazing find and a picture I will remember for a long time.Editing
Basically I did some touch up work in Photoshop, to make sure the lighting was perfect for printing and I cropped the image to give a good amount of the frame to the truck. I feel like there is less negative space which is something I continue to work on today! In my camera bag
So I now use a canon 80D. Yes, I crossed lines but in all fairness I have been a fan of both of my cameras. Normally I have three lenses, spare batteries, lens cleaner, tripod mounts and an off camera flash that I sometimes use depending on what I am shooting.Feedback
I would just say don’t be afraid to go out and explore and be creative. The more you explore, the more treasures you find. I am not from Oregon, but friends had suggested we go out and visit there and without that discussion, this photo would not be in my portfolio. Everyone has a different style that they like to express so be creative and make the shot your own representation of the moment!
