Thank you kindly NCP! Just being a finalist is great but like always, it is very subjective!

Behind The Lens

Location

This image was taken in my yard! I was interested in the fact the Sage (Salvia), where Bees were getting their nectar from have little pistils above the nectar pod in which plops pollen on the bees head and shoulders during nectar slurping (if you will). This Bee had obviously been at the trough for awhile and made an intersting image!

Time

This was morning around 9:00am

Lighting

It was available light as all my pictures are taken in with this method!

Equipment

Canon 7D MKII and Canon 100/f2.8 Macro L Hand held

Inspiration

The pollen covered back and the way it got there was interesting how nature has some species pollenating a different area of the carrier!

Editing

I used Lightroom and sharpened as well and tweeked clarity and contrast!

In my camera bag

I have a Canon 5D MK III & 7D MK II body & Canon 17-40/4 L, Canon 100/f2.8 Macro L and Canon 400/f5.6 L.

Feedback

Don't be afraid of Bees as they could careless about you as they are busy! Move slowly and forward not side to side quickly and just relax and watch them! as with Butterflies, Hummingbirds or other flying creature, they will come back for there food (nectar). Watch your DOF as focused background is often takes away from the beauty of the subject! Open to your widest aperture and take a picture and close down as you need to get the subject focused in without the background clutter! Practice! Macro DOF is totally different as the "in focus depth" goes from feet to inches and to millimeters!
