Location
This is from Asia’s largest wooden palace situated in a place called Chakala, Thackay, Tamil Nadu, India which is my paternal grandmother’s home town too.Time
Remember reaching the entrance of the palace gate, way before the ticket counter could open to study the ambience in general. It was around 9:30am by the time I got the ticket and slowly started walking in. This shot was taken around 10:30 am.Lighting
I started by observing different angles and impact of light as well as shadow on the beautiful architecture while my was camera intact in the bag. This long passage with symmetrical windows in one line had an interesting shape and character to it. Tried several exposures and angle before I got this one.Equipment
This was shot using Canon 5D Mark 2, 70-200mm lens and a manfrotto tripod.Inspiration
I walk into a new place with all my sense organs wide awake. They are curious to see the sunlight casually making its way through the window like any other day, listen to the silence of the place when the birds are chirping right outside those windows and also smell the air and feel the mild morning cool breeze. All these factors are key inspirations to click the picture though they are only catalysts with of course the hero being light and shadow which gives a personality to everyone and everything.Editing
Yes!! Converted the frame into black and white on photoshop because nothing could have been better than grey scale. I strictly follow my teacher’s words. Digital camera should do the job while softwares are substitutes for dark rooms. It shouldn’t go too far from basic colour correction or brightness and contrast or the picture looses it essence. In my camera bag
My kit usually consists of a Canon 5D Mark 2 body, 70-200mm tele lens, 16-35mm wide lens and of course a steady tripod, mine is Manfrotto.Feedback
Most important- use a tripod where you need precision and if you aren’t capturing any dynamic. Don’t be in a hurry to shoot. That’s the last step. First Observe!!! Try different exposures and angles with naked eyes. Golden rule of thumb- Don’t ever think you can fix a shot in post production because photography and image editing are two different subjects all together.
