Jace is the best companion for adventures I've ever had. He's always ready to get up before the sun and chase it up a mountain and take in the views from the top, no matter how cold or windy. It's always better taking in the view when your heart resonates with someone else's.

Location
I got this shot on a hike to Silver Dollar Lake in Idaho Springs, Colorado.Time
We started our day around 4:30am to make sure we got out to the location before the sunrise. This shot was taken at 8:41 on the way back down from the actual lake.Lighting
Lighting can really make or break your photos. I think it's a huge key to really help your shots to pop. This shot I lucked out with the placement of everything; the rock we were standing on, the clouds, the placement of the sun and the lake at the in the valley of the mountains. Everything put us in just the right spot for the lighting to highlight us really well. Keep lighting in mind when composing shots so you can make the best of your photos and make post processing easier.Equipment
I used my Canon EOS Rebel T5i and my 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 kit lens for this shot. I had it mounted on a tripod and used a friend to push the shutter once I got everything framed and adjusted to how I wanted.Inspiration
The photo was inspired by the environment. This hike had so many amazing views and of course Jace, my husky. He's always down for a photoshoot on our adventures. This shot I wanted to capture the intensity of the landscape and journey we were on.Editing
I almost always post-process my images. Most of the time its just adjusting highlights and shadows and levels to really bring out the intensity of it without trying to blow it out. I also up the vibrancy and saturation a little to make the colors pop. The trick with post processing is to keep the image looking as real as possible and recreate how it felt to be there. In my camera bag
I typically have my Canon T5i with my 18-55mm (f/3.5-5.6) and my 75-300 (f/4-5.6) lenses, I try to always carry a tripod with me as well. I also usually have my GoPro Hero4 Silver with a waterproof and frame mount as well as the 3 way grip.Feedback
If you trying to capture a similar shots patience is key. I captured this photo at 1/20th of a second in heavy wind conditions so it was a matter of standing still and waiting for the wind to die down long enough so there wouldn't be any camera shake even with a timer. Get out early enough to use the softer morning light and plan your trips based on the times you want to shoot. The views are amazing all through out the day but if you really want to capture a truly amazing shot get out early.
