Location
This photo was taken at my sister's holiday home in Hahei, Coromandel, New Zealand. The area where the heron is walking was flooded and the heron wouldn't normally walk as close to the house as this one did.Time
This photo was taken in the late morning from memory.Lighting
It was an overcast day, and I'm not very experienced with manual settings so the camera was on automatic.Equipment
The photo was taken on a hand held camera, I think it was my old Canon 50D.Inspiration
I love all bird life, and New Zealand has some amazingly beautiful bird life. I also love reflections, so to get the heron's reflection made it a bit more interesting.Editing
I'm not very good at the post-processing stuff, so all I did was crop the photo and bring out the colour of the bird a little bit.In my camera bag
I've since upgraded to a Canon 70D which came with a 18-135m lens, and I now have a good Canon 400m zoom lens, plus a 2x teleconverter, a wide angle 10-20m for landscapes, and a fish eye lens for fun.Feedback
The more shots you take the more comfortable you will feel, and the more likely you will be of getting a "keeper". Practice practice practice.
