Location
We were visiting Daniel Island, SC for the weekend to look for our new home. I had to take advantage of the beautiful location for a styled shoot with my kids.Time
Luckily I took into account that even though we were visiting South Carolina, it was February so still chilly. We headed down to the Wando River to take some shots around the edge of Daniel Island around 4:30pm to catch the sunset. The kids were cold, but troopers! They are so sweet with one another, but maybe that was the key to get them to really cozy up for the photo.Lighting
I knew I wanted them lit nicely from the sunsetting and not backlit, so I positioned them facing the light. So thankful to get their sweet expressions.Equipment
Canon 6D, 70-200 2.8LInspiration
I plan an abundance of styled shoots for my daughter. She is always more willing and sometimes I find the ideas come easier for girls for me, than for my little guy. I knew I needed some really special shots of them together. In prepping for our move to a new state, I was excited to do something while we visited what would become our new home.Editing
This involved a bit of processing. My composition was off, so I needed to stretch and clone the background on the right side. Then, typical wb and exposure adjustments. I like dark and rich backgrounds, so I made some adjustments in PS, including Levels and some light manipulation in Curves. I also always use the CMYK method to adjust skin tone if needed. In my camera bag
My Canon 6D and if I am outdoors and have the space, you can guarantee I'll have my 70-200 2.8L. By far my favorite lens to get a sharp subject, but also super creamy bokeh. I also always have my 24-70 2.8L if I needed to get those wider angle shots.Feedback
Sometimes you just need to step back and let yours kids interact. I didn't give them much direction here besides having them sit next to one another. I never would have guessed little brother would give his big sister a kiss on the nose. Perfection.
