I took this photo not too far from home in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado.Time
My husband and I, with our two children and our dog had been driving around most of the day looking at the beautiful fall colors the aspens provide each fall. I saw an amazing grove of aspens down in a valley off the road. By this time the sun was getting low in the sky and I knew it would be amazing to get down there and take a look. I took my oldest daughter who was 8 and asked my husband to keep the dog with him. Soon the field became deep in thigh high grass and holes you couldn't see but found with every step. I'm now carrying my daughter and my camera while yelling to my husband to let the dog go so he could protect us from all the things my imagination has now conjured up. We finally made it to the grove and I am surprised I got a single good shot. Exhausted and scared I hand held the camera and took as many shots as I could before my savior the dog left me to go back to dad. The grove was silent, still, a little spooky, and glowing gold from the evening sun. This is just one of the shots that became of the funny little experience that I will forever remember.Lighting
The setting sun and the golden leaves did it all.Equipment
I used a Nikon D5200 with an 18-55mm lens.Inspiration
The aspens, the colors, and the season inspired this photo. I always see the most amazing photography of all the gorgeous changes and colors in fall. I guess I just wanted to see what I could come up with. Excited to get out and try again this year!Editing
I am not very skilled in post processing, I always shoot in RAW so I can later come back to older photos when I learn more. For this I just upped the temp and contrast in Photoshop. In my camera bag
I don't have a lot so I usually carry everything I have. Nikon D5200, 18-55mm, 55-300mm, 200-500mm and my new fancy tripod that Viewbug sent me for a contest prize! Thank you ;)Feedback
Get low and use a wide angle lens. Be patient, watch the sun light up the leaves as it sets and enjoy every minute.
