Location
I wish I could say the photo was taken abroad but am proud to say it was taken in my living room!Time
This was a cloudy day around 4pm. My nieces came to play with my two girls, (all pictured in the photo) They just wanted to go outside and do their own thing but I had just dyed some cheese cloth for a newborn shoot and wanted to take their picture together. I convinced them to give me 5 minutes, it was worth it!Lighting
Natural light from a large window on an overcast day.Equipment
Shot with a Canon 70D. Natural light from a window.Inspiration
I originally wanted to just get the four of them together since they are cousins. I didn't have a plan or original idea I wanted to capture, it was spur of the moment.Editing
Yes. This picture was originally a color photograph. I converted to grayscale and did some darkening, dodging and burning in photoshop. Took out some stray hairs and sharpened a bit.In my camera bag
My canon 5D Mark ii with a 50mm and my 85 mm. I love both of these lenses, they have so much diversity. I have cleaning clothes, extra cards for my camera and candy! Candy for the children of course;okay who am I kidding? The candy's for me!Feedback
The best advice I can give is to allow the models to express their true emotion, regardless what that may be. Emotion is expressed through the eyes as well as the rest of the face. Anything that isn't genuine seems to dominate the frame and a great shot is lost. My girls in this photograph were bored and not happy I asked them to sit for a picture. I feel that adds so much intensity to the photograph. It is apparent they were all feeling the same way, so it worked well.
