Location
This photo was taken in Montenegro. The waterfall name is Skakavica, and it is only active during rain periods and spring, when the snow melts from surrounding mountains.Time
I arrived to the site sometime around 11 AM, after shooting some early morning photos in an area nearby. It came to my mind that, because of the heavy raining during last few days, the waterfall may be rich with water, and also the weather conditions were near perfect, so it was a opportunity not to miss.Lighting
I haven't use any additional lighting, because it was a cloudy day, and the waterfall is secluded enough in a deep gorge, so I thought that I can manage to take the photo without ND filter and with a aperture of f/22. And I was right.Equipment
This was shot with Nikon D7100, with Nikkor 16-86mm f/1:3.5-56G VR DX lens with CPL filter, tripod and IR remote.Inspiration
Autumn in Montenegro mountains is extremely beautiful, almost a fairy tale like. I shot a photo of the same waterfall in late winter, last year, and it lacked a vividnes of colors that autumn provides. So I decided to contrast the whiteness of long exposure of water with a bright yellow, orange and brown colors of the leaves, freshly washed with light rain that was falling at the moment of photo capture.Editing
Post-processing was made in matter of modification to the highlights and shadows, with a bit of clarity added, colors were vivid enough so I had no need to tamper with it. Also did some sharpening, focused mostly on the leaves and rocks on the sides of the photo. As a final touch, I balanced the levels of whites and blacks to remove few burnout spots. In my camera bag
Since I am mostly a nature and landscape amateur photographer, I usually carry around Nikon D7100 with Nikkor 16-85mm f/1:3.5-56G VR and Nikkor 55-300mm f/1:4.5-56G VR lens, and Nikkor 35mm f/1.8 prime lens tripod, some filters and remote. These are all DX lenses, since I use the DX sensor camera, and they cover almost everything I came upon during my photo trips. Also, when I want to experiment with some plant macros, I carry Tamron 60mm f/2 1:1 macro lens. And a few sandwiches, of course.Feedback
Don't leave your house without a tripod and an ND filter. Take the ND8 and you may use larger aperture to avoid difraction which appears on smaller aperture, especially on consumer lenses that I use. Wait for a cloudy day, possibly fresh after the rain, to get the polution free air and brighter colors. Remote is preferable, but the self-timer option will do the job. And just frame it and shoot for a second. Or two.
