This is still one of my favourite travel photos, I managed to capture the amazing view of the Prague bridges over the Vltava river in January as the sun was setting and the cold was setting in, it became misty. Prague in the Czech Republic is one the most amazing cities for a photographer to visit.

Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was captured on a very cold winters afternoon overlooking the amazingly photogenic city of Prague, Czech Republic.

Time

The time of day was approximately 4pm, it was winter and very cold & the image caught chimney smoke settling around the city.

Lighting

Lighting in inland Europe over winter for landscapes can be a real challenge, you tend to get many skies that have not much colour apart from a continuous whitish sky, early morning or later in the afternoon can bring cloud or smoke haze from chimneys which can be used to create a better image.

Equipment

Sony alpha 99, no tripod.

Inspiration

I had seen paintings and other photographs of the Bridges of Prague and it was something I had wished to capture on our trip to this amazing city.

Editing

I adjusted colour slightly using Adobe Lightroom

In my camera bag

Lately I have narrowed my gear down, I use to carry a camera body and three lenses but for travel photography and backpacking it's just not viable, I currently use Sony a7r2 and Sony FE 24-240 F3.5-6.3 OSS Lens and have found this to be a very good combination for travel photography.

Feedback

Never give up, don't think you can just walk up and capture a great image straight up, it may take hours, days or even weeks to capture that shot.
