Behind The Lens
Location
Parque Nacional El Cocuy - ColombiaTime
This was mid morning at an altitude of 4200m - it was freezing! And I had to wait approximately 2 hours for the mist to clear. But well worth the wait I reckon!Lighting
I needed the mist to clear so I had enough light to capture the reflection - which it eventually did. But the mid-morning sunshine was perfect to capture the deep colours I wanted.Equipment
I did have a tripod but my fingers were frozen so they werent much good. So I just shot it from the hip so to speak. Camera Eos 50D + 17-85mm Canon lens.Inspiration
The reflection - it was such an incredible mirror image I couldnt walk away from the scene without snapping a picture.Editing
Well I dont think anyone doesnt do any editing in this day in age. I did but I always try to keep it to a minimum - I want to show what what the reality was - not an unrealistic scene. Mostly its removing vignetting & dust spots. In my camera bag
I travel light (given my financial constraints) but I have upgraded to a fullframe 5DII which I have in addition to my 17-40mm wide angle and 100-400mm telephoto. Lets me achieve most things though its a real pain to have to keep swapping lenses in the outdoors!Feedback
Patience is the key for me. You cannot force a moment. Sit and enjoy it and till the right moment comes along and then make sure you are ready. Also look for unique angles and perspectives to make your subject jump out more. Most of all have fun and experiment!
