A tagine consists of a large, thick earthenware bowl, from which the prepared dishes can be served, and a relatively high cone-shaped or spherical lid. Most tagines are glazed , but they can also be unglazed. Some tagines are painted; these are usually used for decoration or to serve the dish after preparation.
