Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in the ancient city of Petra in Jordan. It was very hot out so I went into a shaded space to cool down. This Bedouin lad was also there.

Time

During the heat of the day. (It was maybe 40 degrees Celsius that day and we were in the middle of the Jordanian desert.

Lighting

Natural lighting coming from the direction the subject is facing.

Equipment

This photo was taken a while ago so I was probably shooting with my Nikon D7000 and a telephoto lens. I was pretty far away from him and didn't want to intrude while he was clearly taking some down time out of the sun.

Inspiration

I was inspired by the colors of the cave and the cushions, as well as his costume, his body posture, and the look on his face.

Editing

I generally do lens corrections, correct the levels, and then do some sharpening.

In my camera bag

These days I travel with my Sony A7III (which I still absolutely love), a Sony FE 50mm f/1.8, a Sony FE 16-35mm, and a Sony FE 70-300mm. If I'm doing landscape photography I'll also have ND filters on me, as well as a tripod (which I also carry for night photography, obviously). I use the Peak Design Capture Clip when I'm doing event photography or am on a hike where I want my camera accessible.

Feedback

Don't be invasive. This poor guy was swarmed by tourists all day long. I gave him plenty of space.
