Location
I took this photo at Cannon Beach, Oregon on an annual trip down the Pacific Northwest coast during the winter. I almost always try to stop here as Haystack Rock is always an amazing subject.Time
For landscapes I shoot almost exclusively during the golden or blue hours. This was taken about an hour before sunset.Lighting
I got lucky as there was a break in the storm during the golden hour. The clouds were streaming but there was enough breaks in them to get enough light on the rocks and variety in the sky.Equipment
This shot was taken with my old Nikon D7000 and a Sigma 10.0-20.0 mm f/4.0-5.6. Nothing particularly expensive.Inspiration
It's hard to avoid wanting to stop at Haystack Rock during a break in a winter storm - it's always amazing!Editing
This image didn't need much post-processing. I used Lightroom + Photoshop for basic adjustments (lens correction, curves, sharpening, etc.)In my camera bag
These days I've replaced my old Nikon D7000 with a Sony A7 III. For lenses I carry a Sony FE 50mm f/1.8, a Sony 16-35 mm F4, and a Sony FE 70-300 mm. I also carry a Peter McKinnon 6-9 stop variable ND filter. (Which I love!) Since I often travel in the rain, I also have a Storm Jacket for my camera with just about all the time too.Feedback
Get out there and shoot! Don't be afraid of stormy weather! Weather events are some of the best times to get dramatic landscapes.
