The volcanic ash that buried Pompeii in 79 AD has left some of the bodies buried by the ashes left as cavities. The bodies themselves have completely perished. These cavities were later filled by archaeologists with casts so that we can now see them as complete bodies. We see men, women and children. We see that they were attacked at the time by the large amount of ash that the volcano spewed. It all happened in a very short time.

Great shot! I went there when I was 13 years old (and we had film cameras, the film was not as expensive as getting it developed). I had some photos where you could see the persons bones and the one most touching/moving to me was of the dog running with it's mouth open. I let my son take them to school years ago & they never made it home, now I only have a few left mostly of the Vatican. I took 12 rolls of film but only developed 3 or 4..lol Though this is sad, it brings back memories of Italy, where my relatives are from, though not this part. Excellent photo/capture!
