Location
This shot was taken during early Spring in a local park on some staircases to elevate her, this way i am actually shooting upwards.Time
The shot was taken late in the afternoon just as the light was fading over the horizon.Lighting
She was positioned to ensure that the light was falling on her face and hair. You cant see from the shot, but there were some hedges to the right of the shot, softening the light falling on the lower half of the shot, making sure i got stronger light to her face. I also tweeked the white balance in camera, to warm the colors a bit more.Equipment
I used a 70:200mm lens at f4. this way i can separate her from the background. The camera was my canon 60D. Ive since upgraded it to a 80D. I also used a monopod to help steady the shot. Important as light was fading forcing speeds down. Im not a huge fan of high ISO's particularly as the camera used starts to show grain above 800.Inspiration
It took about two weeks planning. the idea behind the shoot was precisely Spring and Warmth under natural light. As i wanted to coordinate colors, i choose a model with long hair, which allows wind to build some dinamics into the shot. Also hair color was important. I did not want the hair to stand out too much and take front stage. I was lucky to find a model with beautiful red hair. Styling was also done in such a way as to ensure that the clothes all conveyed uniform colors and styles. Besides that I love Denim and brown. Make-up was in location. Most people underestimate the importance of make-up, but here very important to create some interest in the shot. You can see again that reds and browns were used for make-up, in line with the idea for the shoot.Editing
This shot did not need much in terms of post processing. But i did blur the leg to the left. This way the shot becomes more interesting and i can manipulate the viewers observation of the shot.In my camera bag
Really depends on the idea. Planning is everything, so i take what i need and only that. I will allways have a camera (obviously), one or two lenses ranging from 24-70 to 70-200, spare batteries, cards, cloth to clean lenses just in case, and little else. If the shoot is more complex and requires aditional lighting, i will take a few more bags, tripods and strobes. DependsFeedback
Plan, plan and plan. If you have the shot in your head then 80% of the shot is already done. You can envision the light, the location, the clothes, pose and equipment. Sometimes we have to improvise, particularly when mother nature decides not to help. but this is also part of the planning and the fun. Check weather reports, and if necessary have a plan B. The location for this shot did have nearby spaces which would allow us to shoot just in case it started to rain,... which it did, but fortunately only after the main shot was taken.
