I took this picture at the Sylvenstein Lake in the Karwendel Mountains close to the German Austrian border.Time
12:19:49 Pretty much high noon. The time least recommended to take award winning photos.Lighting
It was a bright summer day. All natural light.Equipment
It was a drone shot taken with a Mavic Air Drone by DJI. I think i had a ND8 filter attached.Inspiration
I am slightly baffled that this image resonates so strongly with people. To be honest, it was more of a B-roll shot. The image I had wanted to take was a shot of the Bridge across the lake. It is an famous motive, often shot by many photographers from a high looking point of the mountain on the other side of the lake. I wantend to take a picture from high above the lake. There are not many areas around the lake where you can legally fly a drone at the lake (at least back then in 2018). I found a spot flew to the place I wanted and captured what I need for the shot I had planned. Flying back, close to where I had took off I noticed a lot of boats at the side of the lake and aimed the camera down. Fascinated by the patterns all the boats made composed a few different shots.. The blue boat and the one on the far right sruck my interest and I tried to juxtapose the group of boats a with the single one.Editing
I edited out some distracting bushes, foliage and a tarpaulin at the beach to keep the composition clean in Photoshop. Further color adjustments in Lightroom. In my camera bag
The original Mavic Air drone and a ND 8 FIlter.Feedback
Fly a lot. experiment. be mindful not to disturb other people while flying your drone, or creating your art in general. don't be afraid to share your images. shoot a lot. when done. shoot more. Remember that the photographic gold sometimes lies at the side of the road, not at it's end. (In my case at the side of the lake and on the way back from the intended shot)
