We were on a leisurely Dhow cruise and swam with the popular blue dolphins in Khasab, a small city in Oman, a majestic and unspoiled emirate bordering the United Arab Emirates. It has frequently been dubbed “the Norway of Arabia” because of its extensive fjord-like craggy inlets and desolate mountainscapes!Time
Just about mid-day.Lighting
The strong mid-day sun reflected the crystal clear blue waters....with dolphin everywhere!Equipment
Canon EOS 5D Mark III with an EF 24-105mm f/4L IS zoom lens......handheld.Inspiration
The coastline of Oman is stunning with its granite cliffs, blue waters and for any photographer cruising along its shoreline in a local dhow it’s an invitation to magnificent photo captures!Editing
My main photo editing app is Snapseed and some simple Apple Photos editing tweaks which is all I needed in this image. In my camera bag
I travel a lot and as a photographer I’m really a minimalist. A semi pro camera (the Canon referenced above) and an Apple IPhone X. An all purpose Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS zoom enables me to capture medium wide angle to medium telephoto scenarios without having to change lenses. I don’t even carry a tripod, and only occasionally a monopod, and rely on handheld image stabilized lenses for sharp focus.Feedback
The best camera according to professional photogs “is the one on you!” And as most people are so often without a camera ???? the scene which caught their eye is forever lost! That’s why I always have at least a camera phone with me. And, I would urge anyone who has a camera phone with them to really get to know how to use it properly, and at a minimum use the simple phone editing and consider taking a course auch as the iPhone photography School. If you follow this advice and “get the bug” you may escalate to more substantial cameras for creative control. IMAGE ARE MEMORIES!
