In the foreground are shale layers in a rainbow of purples, maroons, reds, and oranges; in the background are sandstone cliffs in yellows and peaches. All set off by New Mexico's azure sky.
The photo title is something of a joke - the state motto of Colorado is "Colorful Colorado," the word "colorado" itself meaning both "colored" and "reddish." But in my opinion, New Mexico has more red colors than its neighbor to the north. "Rincon," BTW, is a Spanish word meaning "nook" or "corner"; it can be used for a a negative space like the corner of a room, or a positive space like the prow of a ship. Here, the cliffs in the background turn to form a corner, with these shale outcrops nestled in the negative space.
BTW - New Mexico's state motto is "Land of Enchantment."
