Location
We went to Mallory Square in Key West to watch the sun go down. I've never seen a setting more fairy-tale like than that evening.Time
I believe this was taken around six in the evening.Lighting
This is called golden hour. Not matter what you photograph at this time of day, it looks like a work of art. It would have been hard to take a bad picture.Equipment
Nikon D5100 and a Sigma 17-70 CInspiration
Everyone else was busy watching the street performers (sword swallower, acrobats, etc...), but I could tear my eyes away from the sea. Everything was gloriously red gold and the ships and seagulls were turning into black paper silhouettes.Editing
I photographed everything during our trip to Florida in RAW because I wanted as much flexibility as possible. However, pretty much the only thing I adjusted in this photograph was the saturation in order to match the actual color that evening. In my camera bag
I don't carry a bag, just my camera and lens.Feedback
Wait for dramatic lighting and take as many pictures as you can. At this time of day, colors are more highly saturated than at noon and in-camera processing usually struggles to reproduce the special quality of the light. Photograph in RAW and use your memories of the event to create more accurate colors.
