Location
This photo was taken at the Skyline Vs. Silver Creek wrestling dual, at Silver Creek High School in Longmont Co.Time
The dual started at 6pm.Lighting
There was a wrestling spotlight being used for this dual and the rest of the gym was dark.Equipment
Sony A200 with a DT 1.8/50 SAM Prime lens on a tripod.Inspiration
It was the middle of my son's wrestling season, I had just purchased a 50mm prime lens and this was my first opportunity to use it. I knew the indoor lighting would be low and a flash wouldn't work from the stands, so I was very excited to see what this fast/wide aperture lens could do. It did not disappoint! I only had 1 chance to snap the photo as my son's hand was raised and I couldn't be happier with the results.Editing
In post-processing I made the photo black and white, adjusted the contrast slightly and cropped to center the photo. In my camera bag
Sony A200, Sony DT 1.8/50mm SAM lens, Sigma DC 18-250mm 3.5-6.3 Macro HSM lens and a Monfrotto TripodFeedback
First off, as with all sports photography, knowing the sport is the key to be ready to capture the moment. In the low light conditions, a very wide aperture was needed to capture the moment without blurring. I had taken a few shots of the previous matches to make sure I was happy with the settings before this shot.
