Location
The photo was taken on a beach at Montague Harbour Marine Provincial Park on Galiano Island BC.Time
After a day of hiking in the woods and walking the golden beaches of Galiano in late spring, I took this picture of my three friends at noon time as they overlooked this beautiful landscape during the sun set of a cloudy evening. I was so proud of this picture it made me realise I had potential in photography, shortly after I bought my first DSLR camera.Lighting
I wanted my picture to portray three friends content with where they were in "this" moment and time. The lighting needed to be soft to give a subtle sense of calmness and appreciation with friends in a beautiful place. My only source of light was the sun setting, so it was all about timing, needless to say I took enough shots to find the perfect picture.Equipment
As I mentioned this picture inspired me to buy my first DSLR. It made me wonder what amazing images I could capture if I had more control over aperture and shutter speed. This photo was taken on a Samsung S4, I do believe the equipment is only half the battle however knowing your surrounding, working the light, using your imagination and getting the right composition can play a bigger role in capturing that great shot.Inspiration
I saw the perfect moment when my friends where walking toward the water edge, the sun was setting and started shimmering on the water. I did have to ask my friends to stay where they were and keep looking towards the boat...lol.Editing
Proud to say I did not use any post processing. In my camera bag
I'm very much a beginner, I know have a Nikon D3300 with 18-55mm Zoom Lens. So carry the basics, my next purchase will have to be a tripod to begin long exposure shots.Feedback
I feel it always helps know what story you are try to portray in a picture. If my photo has know depth beyond a pretty picture I loose interest in it. Taking multiple picture from different angles and setting can help a beginner like myself to learn the best way to capture the moment I'm looking for. Most importantly whether you have the right equipment or just a camera phone, snap that shot.
