Having started with the ideas of shooting with pastel colours I found balloons intended for baby showers and bought thirty large pink-purple balloons. This was a day looking after my quickly growing up sister and this is what we love to do, my mother however has a fear of balloons..

Location
At this time, I didn't have a studio setup so this is the white wall of my house used as a background. It was quite easy to give it that peach/pink colour in postprocess. Following a few successful portrait shoots, adapting and making do or holding onto locations where I'd like to take a shot I invested in some kit.Time
This photo was taken on a great summer's day in natural light . A north facing wall meant we had a small time frame.Lighting
Being prepared, inflating forty balloons and catching the right time for the light was essential. We had about 2hrs of good light. When the balloons caught the light easy, heavier latex balloons stayed in place but it was so hard to hold onto them!Equipment
Shot on a Sony Alpha. We started off with a tripod for more static shots to keep them level.Inspiration
We've done several portraits for practise. My sister is usually the one to try out ideas for later shoots for friends or clients. In this case we did one just for her, choosing pastel colours to go with her pale appearance. A great portrait is made by the props you use, I have amazon and ebay and random items purchased which will enhance someone's character infront of the camera. Keep an eye on my page! I will be uploading portraits. All relate to 'exaggerated self' or a 'polar opposite' and make use of unique props. Not the end of my inspiration!Editing
Post processing was simple on this series of photos (I start off with RAW files, a process for all and then optimise them all with small tweaks). After the RAW processing was finished I added some additional light with the dodge tool, particularly on the balloons and brushed over the foreground with a mid-opacity pink brush. I had a few shots at this. It was best to get one sweeping motion with enough transparency to keep a few details, else the model would be floating on a pink cloud. In my camera bag
To shoot portraits I hold maybe 2 DSLRs, a tripod with a spirit level, the right props and a studio set . Studio wise I buy many backgrounds and the patterned ones I rarely reuse. MOHOO backgrounds are great for their price.Feedback
Tips: Have a warm tone and go for peaches instead of white. Leave enough detail to ground your model. Buy many many balloons. They pop. Finally, do not live with anyone who has a fear of balloons. Should one stray, it's really... not funny.
