Location
This photo was taken in my backyard in Sacramento, California. I am a self taught photographer, and I continuously have been learning new techniques and ideas every chance I get the opportunity to photograph. Practicing photographing different kinds of flowers has been a main interest during the first year of my new found hobby as I am in awe of the variety of beautiful flowers available in my area.Time
This Gerbera shot was taken at 7:14 am on May 19, 2015. I always make a point of photographing flowers right after sunrise during the Spring and Summer seasons. This is one of my favorite photographs as Gerberas are beautiful and grow in a variety of vibrant colors.Lighting
The natural outdoor lighting works wonders for me right after sunrise. I snap my shots using several different angles in conjunction with the appropriate sunlight to achieve the best results.Equipment
This photograph was taken with a 70-300 mm lens with my Canon EOS 70D camera, and no other equipment was used. I favor the 70-300 mm lens as I am quite pleased with the results when taking macro shots.Inspiration
My interest in photographing vibrant flowers is what inspired me to take this photo. Photography has always been an interest of mine since 10 years of age when I received my first camera for my birthday.Editing
No post-processing or editing was utilized. When beginning photography, my interest was to capture the best shots that I could without having to edit. For the past two years, I have only taken my shots naturally without any type of editing. After two years of photography, I have now gained an interest to learn editing techniques which will come in handy when the weather conditions may not be favorable. Now that I am further along with photography, I have an interest in pursuing a Photoshop class which will be available next Fall at the local junior college. In my camera bag
I always carry my 70-300 mm lens in my backpack as it can be used with so many different types of subjects; especially macro shots of flowers as well as insects. My Canon 70D is included as well in addition to an extra battery and memory card and a cleaning kit.Feedback
I tend to look for vibrancy in flowers as well as their unique characteristics. For myself, I have learned that early mornings and late afternoons are a great time to capture the best shots. Developing a lot of patience absolutely pays off when having to work with mother nature. When the clouds are moving above blocking the sunlight, I have learned to wait until the sunlight reappears to continue my photographing. Also, I am willing to do whatever it takes to capture the best shot that I can, including getting dirty by taking shots on the ground while getting a few bugs in my hair! Thank you ViewBug for selecting one of my photos for a chance to appear on your blog.
