This was taken at a studio I rented 1 day a week to help me learn flash photographyTime
it was around 3pm but when your in the studio time is non existent as you aren't fighting ambient light etc its just a case of placement & balancing lights.Lighting
quite simple lighting just to the left side of the model and a white wall to the left side.Equipment
D600 & Sigma 70-200mm F2.8 ...Lencarta 500w studio light with Neewer triggersInspiration
I love the straight on style of headshots so practise it every time I get the chance & this model just had the right look but very little experience, I sat her down on a seat then began chatting to get her relaxed then directed the mouth and chin to get the look I was after.Editing
Very quick edit to soften the skin and a quick conversion to B&W with a little work dodging and burning the eyes.. then the last stage was to selectively slightly sharpen a few minor areas. In my camera bag
Nikon D600 & DF cameras with Nikon 28mm F2.8 70-200mm F2.8 50mm F1.4 85mm F1.4 10-24mm f3.5Feedback
You have to work for your light first and foremost... If its in camera then the processing is quick simple edits that take 15 mins max. I take 50 shots and say I don't like this or don't like that...same process until the lights right. A good makeup artist also helps avoid excessive processing..... Keep the processing light afterwards the more you add filters afterwards the more sharpening detail that will appear later..... Aim to limit the processing which brings me back to get the light right first and try and get it in camera. My eventual goal is to get it all in camera without any processing just snap and post every photographers dream shot.
