Location
This photo was taken at my small in home studio.Time
This was taken around 11am. I had the family arrive with the baby hungry and sleepy, so he ate as soon as he got to my house. Unfortunately he didn't want to miss the party and it took a while for us to get him to sleep.Lighting
I used box lighting which I was moving around for the different shots to make sure the light was highlighting the subject without over illuminating the background.Equipment
I use a Canon 5Diii. I did not use a tripod for this photoshoot or any flash.Inspiration
I love the visual idea of the parents working hard to protect their child in a way that the child themselves is even unaware of it. This photo represents how his parents will always be there to catch him and safe guard him.Editing
I used Lightroom to darken the background more. I photographed in color and turned the photo into a black and white to give it a more timeless art appearance. In my camera bag
I shoot with my Canon 5Diii, and a variety of lenses. My most common lens is probably my Canon 28-135, though I love my telephoto, macro, and fish eye lenses also!Feedback
Be patient! Working with newborns can be very challenging and it is important to make sure you are taking your time and making sure the baby is safe and comfortable. The sessions are never as pretty and the final product. This baby pooped in his father's hands while we were trying to capture this image! But with patience these beautiful images can happen! Make sure if you are wanting to do the black background to have the parents wearing black as well. I had the parents stand as far apart as possible while holding the baby so that only their arms would show. It gave them an arm work out! Relax, and have fun with it!
